Who Is Your Greatest Showman? (Part 9/9)

In my previous posts, I discussed the songs from The Greatest Showman and how each song portrays a part of our relationship with the Lord. I’ve reordered the songs to tell a story about a man named James growing an intimate relationship with the Lord. Click the links below to read the previous posts:

A Million DreamsCome AliveThe Other SideNever Enough , Rewrite the Stars , This Is Me , Tightrope, From Now On.

In my last post, From Now On, I explained how James was changing his focus from fame to Jesus. He will focus on enjoying his life right now instead of always thinking about, “what’s next?”

This post, The Greatest Show, is the last post from this series! It’s about God being our “Greatest Showman” and how we can bask in His love.

Before we get to the lyrics, I have to say one thing: I love the lions at the beginning of the song! This is my favorite part of the song! I see it as God representing being the Lion of Judah and we’re allowing Him to roar and make moves in our lives.

Here are the lyrics:

Been searching in the dark, your sweat soaking through the floor (woah) / And buried in your bones there’s an ache that you can’t ignore / Taking your breath, stealing your mind / And all that was real is left behind / Don’t fight it, it’s coming for you, running at ya / It’s only this moment, don’t care what comes after /

Explanation: The desire for peace, love, and joy has been eating away at James. He’s been searching for it through temporary pleasures. But he no longer has to search. God is fighting for him. God never gave up on him and James finally sees this. God has been fighting through the darkness to get to James. And James is ready to meet him halfway.

Your fever dream, can’t you see it getting closer / Just surrender ’cause you feel the feeling taking over / It’s fire, it’s freedom, it’s flooding open / It’s a preacher in the pulpit and you’ll find devotion / There’s something breaking at the brick of every wall, it’s holding / All that you know /

Explanation: James desires peace and to see his dreams come true! After changing his focus to what’s more important (Jesus and focusing on building his relationship with Jesus), everything seems to be falling into place. God is overflowing James with love and James is finally noticing it.

So tell me do you wanna go? / Where it’s covered in all the colored lights / Where the runaways are running the night / Impossible comes true, it’s taking over you / Oh, this is the greatest show

Explanation: Christians are the runaways. Sometimes we can be judged or considered the “outcast” because of our belief in Jesus Christ. But we’re the ones “running the night”. We are seeing our dreams come true.

We light it up, we won’t come down / And the sun can’t stop us now / Watching it come true, it’s taking over you / Oh, this is the greatest show

Explanation: Others see God’s light shining through James. Nothing will be able to stop him from achieving his goals when he sets God as his foundation. James is seeing his prayers come to life.

Where the lost get found in the crown of the circus king

Explanation: This is one of the most beautiful lines from the song. We are the lost and God is “the crown of the circus king.” He found us and he doesn’t intend to let go. How beautiful is that?

It’s everything you ever want / It’s everything you ever need / And it’s here right in front of you / This is where you wanna be (this is where you wanna be)

Explanation: God knew exactly what James wanted and needed even when James THOUGHT he knew what he wanted/needed.

God knows what is best for us. And God knows what you REALLY want when you say you want that one particular thing. For instance, you want to be in a relationship? Maybe you want to feel wanted and be an intimate relationship. Well, you will only find that in God, not other people. Humans are imperfect just like you. Sometimes they make you feel special, sometimes they don’t. But God? He makes you feel special 24/7.

What you’ve always wanted has been right in front of you: peace, love, joy. It all lives inside of you. What you want and need is Jesus.

We try to find peace, love, and joy in temporary solutions: drinking, binge watching shows, food, smoking, partying, staying busy; but really, those are only distractions.

We’re humans and we crave connection with others even if we don’t want to admit it sometimes. We want to bond with others and be able to confide in someone. Someone who understands us and can give us peace of mind. Well, guess who can only fill that? Jesus! “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you”- 1 Peter 5:7 NIV.

Jesus is Peace.

Jesus is Love.

Jesus is Joy.

John 14:26-27 NLT But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

You have the Holy Spirit living inside of you. You have access to this peace.

Here are some uplifting verses that prove this:

“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” – Philippians 4:7

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world”- John 16:33

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.” -Colossians 3:15

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness” – Galatians 5:22 NIV

“The Lord gives strength to his people;
the Lord blesses his people with peace.” – Psalms 29:11

When we shift our focus on what is constant and everlasting, we will find that we can be content in whatever circumstances we are in (Philippians 4:11). We will find freedom, joy, peace, and receive our heart’s desires.

God is my Greatest Showman. I know He will provide for me. I know He will listen to me when I’m sad or happy. I know He is holding my hand and walking with me through this journey on earth. Nothing is better than that. And He’s doing the same thing for you. You only need to pay attention.

And knowing He will never leave my side, this….is the greatest show.

Comment below a dream of yours!

**Note: If you feel you don’t know Jesus Christ and want to, say this prayer:

“Lord, forgive me of my sins. Lord, thank you for your mercy and grace. Thank you for never giving up on me. I’m sorry for neglecting our relationship. I’m sorry for being distracted by earthly desires. But I want to change now. I want to get to know you. I believe you died for my sins and have resurrected. I believe you are my Father and my Savior. I’m ready to grow our relationship. In Jesus name, I pray, Amen.”

Giving your life to Jesus, you declare that you will seek Him. That’s all there is to it. Saying this prayer, you have activated the Holy Spirit that has been living inside of you all along.

I hope this series helped someone, feel free to message me if you want to talk more. 🙂

  1. My dream is to become a doctor! I always worry and I am never at peace. After reading your post I understand why! I try to fix everything on my own. I only lean on God in times of trouble. That’s not the type of relationship I want with God. I want an everyday relationship and peace.

  2. I do drama ministry at my church and I have also taken the songs from The Greatest Showman and have rewrote some of them to fit the Christian message. I love this post. I’ve always wanted to write a script for the new arrangements of the songs I made and put them to a story. Your post has given me some ideas for that. And trust me I will give credit where credit is due. I will of course write my own story but some of the thoughts and even the character you used to follow in the story has given some great ideas. Thanks for allowing God to use you in this way.
